The Friction

Levitating slowly Above the world you don't look down Just rise above those bastards And show them they can't wear you out So when those pigs start squealing Sugar coated faithless lies It’s fear and hate they’re feeling The smell of urine burns your eyes But when the friction takes control When the friction drags you down Together we can break the hold Together we can make it right Atop those giant towers Love and hope have been denied But we can love each other And they can’t hide the hurt inside When the friction takes control When the friction drags you down Together we can break the hold Together we will make it right When the friction takes control When the friction drags you down Together we can break the hold Together we can make it right When the friction takes control When the friction drags you down Together we can break the hold Together we will be alright

Cheyenne 03:58
City humming electric lights In my fingertips All the colors buzzing bright Danced across her hips Morning light watercolored glow Down the oceanside What’s a man supposed to do Once he’s satisfied? Cheyenne, I’m not coming home I’m sorry to leave you alone But Cheyenne, I’m not coming home Forgive me for hope and for love Smell of violence and meat uptown Taste the thrill unknown Going up is just like falling down Better not alone One by one it starts to fall apart Sudden searing pain In slow motion the bullet slides Through a coronary vein Cheyenne, I’m not coming home Darlin go say what you want Cheyenne, I’m not coming home Now that I’ve found peace and found love Cheyenne, I’m not coming home I’m sorry to leave you alone But Cheyenne, I’m not coming home Forgive me for hope and for love Cheyenne, I’m not coming home Darlin you can say what you want Cheyenne, I’m not coming home Now that I’ve found hope and found love

Stars 04:01
All along the border, between the haves and the ones that don't They burn a lot of nature, any kind of fuel to build the fight Divide, the walls will keep us free Divide, but what they fail to see We are surrounded by the stars High atop the mountain, you can see forever on both sides At any elevation, nature grows and nature thrives Unite, feel love and human touch In time we won’t matter all that much We are surrounded by the stars
4.
Invincible 03:43
Don’t tell me no more stories about your anger and dismay You don’t get to complain about nothing after treating me that way If I have no emotion I might get by But you left me just when I was feeling foolish confidence and pride I am invincible I do not care I am invincible I am not here Welcome to the ignorance, it’s gooey, sticky, warm, and sweet Come on down to the innocence, just tune out everything you see We’ve got no reaction, we don’t give a damn They can’t get close to me, I’m not what I am I am invincible I do not care I am invincible I am nowhere I am invincible I do not care I am invincible I’m unaware I am invincible I do not care I am invincible I am nowhere
5.
Weightless 04:20
Weightless, time unwound Heartbeats the only sound You’re a beam of light floating by And I feel alive when you smile It’s cold out, it never ends As we fall down heaven sent We could seize each other, a warm embrace I would be recovered just to touch your face Hold on, hold on Everything's gone Now we are weightless All alone Hold on, hold on A moment is all Now we are weightless Wide eyed, unaware Breathless, save your air Could we freeze the moment and live inside Reality flies by amplified Hold on, hold on Everything's gone Now we are weightless All alone Hold on, hold on A moment is all Now we are weightless Here we go Hold on, hold on Everything's gone Now we are weightless All alone Hold on, hold on A moment is all Now we are weightless

about

The Friction is the debut EP by 123 Astronaut. Jeff Robbins is probably best known as the front person and principal songwriter for the Boston band Orbit. Jeff formed 123 Astronaut in the aftermath of the 2017 presidential inauguration. The songs grapple with anger, frustration, optimism, denial, and the value of love and hope during times of difficulty and social friction.

The band recorded these songs from September to December of 2017 on the cheap in the band members' homes. Hugo Nicolson (whose credits include Radiohead, Beck, Björk, and Father John Misty) mixed the songs, sifting through the rubble to create a raw but formidable sounding collection of songs.
